Abstract (english) | The 5th International Conference on Road and Rail Infrastructure – CETRA 2018 is organized by the University of Zagreb - Faculty of Civil Engineering, Department of Transportation Engineering. The Conference is held in Zadar, Croatia. Zadar is an ancient city, built in the center of the Croatian Adriatic, full of historical and cultural monuments. It is three thousand years old, a city of old, tumultuous and dynamic history, often destructed, looted, devastated, every time emerging from the ruins stronger, richer and more beautiful. Zadar appeared for the first time in history in the 4th century B.C. as a settlement of the Illyrian tribe of Liburnians – the name Jader was mentioned, and through history it changed into Idassa (Greek source), Jadera (Roman source), Diadora, Zara (during Venetian rule and later Italian) up to today’s name of Zadar. Like Alfred Hitchcock said, it is a “town with the most beautiful sunset in the world, more beautiful than the one in Key West, in Florida, applauded at every evening ”.
The 1st International Conference on Road and Rail Infrastructure – CETRA 2010 was held 17-18 May 2010 in Opatija. The 2nd International Conference on Road and Rail Infrastructure – CETRA 2012 was held on 7-9 May 2012 in Dubrovnik. The 3rd International Conference on Road and Rail Infrastructure – CETRA 2014 was held on 28-30 April 2014 in Split. The 4th International Conference on Road and Rail Infrastructure – CETRA 2016 was held on 23-25 May 2016 in Šibenik.
Great interest of participants in topics related to road and rail infrastructure during previous conferences CETRA, confirmed the soundness of Department of Transportation Engineering’s decision on organizing such international event. Positive comments of the participants after the past Conferences motivated us to continue the organization of conference CETRA. The CETRA conference has established itself as a platform for the exchange of scientific and professional information in the field of road and rail infrastructure. The idea on linking research organisations and economic sector has been the guiding concept for the realisation of this conference. Conferences of this kind are undoubtedly a proper place for bringing closer
together the business and university stakeholders, and for facilitating communication and establishing greater confidence that might result in cooperation on new projects, especially those that contribute to greater competition. Lectures organized in the scope of the conference are based on interesting technical solutions and current research on new knowledge from the field of transport infrastructure as a research of already realised projects, projects at the stage of planning, and those currently in operation, in all parts of the world. In addition to authors from the academic community, lectures were also presented by industry professionals, the idea being to ensure the best possible synergy between theory and practice.
Our goal for the International Conference on Road and Rail Infrastructure – CETRA is to have all published papers indexed in scientific databases in order to achieve greater recognition for the conference itself, for published papers, and for their authors. As the serial publication entitled Road and Rail Infrastructure has been achieved with previous conference (CETRA 2014), the precondition has been fulfilled to obtain the International Standard Serial Number (ISSN), which was a requirement for starting the procedure of registering this publication in scientific databases. All CETRA Conference Proceedings, including CETRA 2018, are indexed in WoS Core Collection (CPCI-S), Google Scholar and TRID database. Also, a great novelty regarding the CETRA 2018 conference is that DOI number (Digital Object Identifier) will be assigned to each published paper, thus a greatly improving visibility and availability of papers.
In the year 2018, 5th International Conference on Road and Rail Infrastructure – CETRA 2018 has been organized, with the intention of bringing together scientists and experts in the fields of road and railway engineering, giving them another opportunity to present the results of their researches, findings and innovations as well as to analyze problems encountered in everyday engineering practice and to offer possible solutions for a more efficient planning, design, construction and maintenance of transport infrastructure. CETRA 2018 Conference serves as a platform for a broad blend of scientific and technical papers in the fields of civil, transport, geotechnical, environmental, traffic and electrical engineering with application in road and rail infrastructure. Papers considered for publication are original papers that form a contribution to the theory or practice of infrastructure engineering, present state-of-the-art work on topics related to infrastructure, or case studies in which theory is applied to a significant infrastructure problem.
The organizers of the Conference express their thanks to all Businesses and Institutions which support this Conference. Special thanks are extended to the IRF - International Road Federation and FEHRL – the Forum of European National Highway Research Laboratories, for their assistance and support in organizing very important conference sessions regarding innovations in Roads maintenance and Innovative transport infrastructure development. Both institutions have contributed, each in its own way, to great success of CETRA 2018 Conference. The Editor commends all authors for excellent papers contributed to these proceedings, and wishes to thank members of the Organizing Committee, International Academic Scientific Committee and numerous experts who participated in the review process. The gratitude is also extended to all participants for deciding to come to Zadar and take part in CETRA 2018.
The quality of the papers presented and the CETRA Conference is best demonstrated by the fact that a considerable interest is being expressed for most of these papers by researchers and industry operators from all parts of the world. We have been receiving almost on a daily basis queries regarding papers published at previous CETRA conferences. This is not only due to the high visibility of the conference thanks to its presence in relevant databases, but is also a logical consequence of the quality of papers published in the scope of this conference series. Lectures that are organised at the conference are based on interesting technical solutions and latest findings in the field of transport infrastructure from the projects already realised, those that are at the design stage, or projects that are currently being realised in all parts of the world. In addition to representatives from the academic community, conference lectures are also given by industry operators, which constitutes the best possibly synergy of theoretical and practical achievements. Problems encountered in everyday engineering practice are analysed through papers presented at the conference, where practical solutions are offered in order to enable a more efficient planning, design, construction, and maintenance of transport infrastructure.
This CETRA 2018 Conference attracted a large number of papers and presentations from 52 countries. More than 240 papers were presented at the Conference and are contained in these proceedings Road and Rail Infrastructure V. We believe that these CETRA 2018 proceedings will be, just like the preceding fourth proceedings from the CETRA cycle, highly interesting and useful to all experts exhibiting a scientific and professional interest in road and rail infrastructure. |
