Abstract

Tema ovog završnog rada su alpske zupčaste željeznice. Rad se sastoji od uvoda, tri cjeline
i zaključka. Opisano je kako i gdje se najčešće primjenjuje ovaj tip željeznica te rad i
mehanizam lokomotiva koje na njima voze. Dani su primjeri sustava zupčastih željeznica te
njihova evolucija kroz posljednjih 150 godina. Prikazana je sigurnost zupčastih željeznica te
mjere koje se poduzimaju kako bi se ista povećala. Proučena su četiri popularna primjera
trasa na kojima se nalaze zupčaste željeznice te njihova važnost za područja u kojima se
nalaze. Obrađen je trend smanjenja ukupnog broja zupčastih željeznica u svijetu te je
uspoređena njihova uporaba u 19. stoljeću i sada. Zupčaste željeznice uspoređene su sa
standardnim u pogledu brzina, rizika, mehaničkih modela, primjene i troškova izgradnje.

Abstract (english)

The topic of this undergraduate thesis are alpine rack railways. The paper consists of an
introduction, three main sections and a conclusion. What is described is how and where this
railway type is most often used as well as the operation principle and mechanism of the
locomotives that run on said railways. Examples of several rack railway systems are
provided along with a summary of their evolution throughout the last 150 years. Further, the
safety of rack railways and measures employed in order to increase it have also been
examined. The paper also explores four well-known rack railway train paths and the
significance they have in their respective areas. Since rack railways are decreasing in
quantity throughout the world, attention has been paid to this trend, and the use of these
railways in the 19th century has been compared to today’s state. Lastly, the paper offers a
comparison of rack and standard railways in terms of speed, downsides, mechanical
models, usage and manufacturing costs.
